Finally finished the world map(s)! Welcome to [Untitled Fairytale Land]. There's two worlds here: the Surface world and the Under world. On the Surface, the world is in constant conflict and magic is too mundane to solve any problems. In the Under, it's much simpler: raw magic surrounds you, strangers become friends, and adventure awaits.

Valerianella locusta, also known as common cornsalad, mâche, or veldsla if you're Dutch.

What it is: This is a small, leafy plant in the honeysuckle family that grows up to about 1ft. (0.3m) tall.

Where it is: Native to Europe and parts of Africa and Asia. It has a widespread presence especially in #France, the #UK, Italy, Germany, Denmark, and the Benelux. Introduced to parts of the East and West Coasts of the US, but it is not considered invasive.

What you can do: Eat it. In fact, especially in Western Europe, you may find this at the market. I did some looking and I've seen prices of bags of these greens for about 2 euro. It's supposed to be good as a salad green if harvested before flowers bloom.

What you should do with it: It's pretty weedy and can be grown as part of a food forest, although it prefers full sun. Its relatively small footprint makes it good for an urban garden - grow alongside other greens like lettuce and spinach. In the US, try to keep it contained and don't spread recklessly, however it's safe to grow for food.

I think a safe compromise is working on drawings for my new phone home screen. Relaxing but not demanding all my time and attention. Also, when it's done, I'll post it + the previous ones I've drawn before. Having said that, if you ever see any of these in the wild No You Didn't And That's Not Me

Focusing on studies rn and it's so hard not to find literally any excuse to procrastinate. Last week I was spending any free time I could find on my site and tbh it was worth it because it's a cute aesthetic but I still haven't actually got proper content on it 🤧 but I have a plan! But also I need to focus on exam prep so I can finish making the site after exams. Someone make my brain focus!!!

"When Galaxies Collide"

A spectacular head-on collision between two #galaxies fueled the unusual triangular-shaped star-birthing frenzy, as captured in this image from the #Hubble #Space #Telescope.

The interacting #galaxy duo is collectively called Arp 143. The pair contains the glittery, distorted, #star-forming spiral galaxy #NGC2445 at right, along with its less flashy companion, #NGC2444 at left.

My hand looks like a gigantic bear paw but I swear, it's the peperomia that's tiny.

I think this cutting I got over 4 months ago has grown a half cm since then, but that may be wishful thinking.

Peperomia Hope

This slow-growing epiphyte, prefers bright light, but direct sun for too long may burn the foliage. Thorough watering after soil has almost entirely dried out.

For new people: Instance Blocking 101

Today I've blocked 3 or 4 whole instances from federating with our server. That's a major step in combatting abuse which is available to instance admins and moderators. Rather than blocking individual accounts we can look and say "this instance is not moderating its own users appropriately and will continue to be a source of problems". Then we block them from communicating with our server, sort of cutting them out of the community.

Normally if you run into someone behaving poorly you should report the individual account. Their moderation team will review and should take action if needed. Your instance moderation team will also get notified and can act for your local instance. If a moderator sees repeated problems from a single instance they may look deeper and decide to instance block. In some cases moderators will preemptively block instances too (such as Gab or Truth.Social in the past).

This is one of the ways we keep our communities healthy! If you find yourself on an instance that has been blocked by other instances you can move to a healthier one with better moderation. If you host an instance for your community, pick good moderators and keep it healthy to keep it connected.
