With my huge hearing loss, I've noticed something.
Really often, when I don't hear and ask people to repeat, they'll tell me stuff like "oh no, that wasn't important" instead of just saying it once again. They may even be mad at me.
It makes me feel really excluded, so I don't dare asking them to repeat anything anymore. I act like I hear most of what they say, smile when they do and that's it...
Please, don't be mean. We're not trying to bother you, we just want to understand what you say.
What I'm listening to today: "Strega Wild Textures", Matthew Shapiro
Three minutes of strange but interesting noises (warning, a bit harsh) based around unusual feedback loops in the Strega patch points. The oscillator's pitch is being modulated by its own subharmonic, which produces rhythmic popping clicks on a chaotically determined tempo as it rapidly jumps from under to above human hearing range and back, until the clicks run together and something stranger happens.

"You may take one of these bags," said the Witch, her face hidden by a large hat brim.
"What's in them?" I asked.
"One holds mountains and lakes and villages to explore. One holds a house for a family to live in forever happily. Others... who knows?"
"Does any of them contain some charm that will let me see your face?"
The Witch smiled, I think, but did not answer.
One bag rustled slightly.
On the "blockchain isn't decentralized" thing, technically a #blockchain system is distributed redundant storage of a single database. It's not a decentralized database system. But this kind of subtlety in distinction gets lost easily within hype-laden tech journalism.
By sheer volume of hype, blockchain systems were able to appropriate the word "decentralized".
I grew up in a firefly-less area and now live in a place with lots of fireflies and I can never get over how nonchalant people are about the hundreds of glowing unearthly green lights every summer evening
It’s like “oh yeah, all the trees talk here. They speak in riddles. They don’t do that where you’re from?”
I'm mighty stoked and excited to let you all know about a new boutique consultancy my partner and I have launched.
It's called Nīkau, and it's got a lot to give. https://nikau.io
