A tortoise/turtle shell contains nerves that connect to its central nervous system. They can feel pain and pleasure when their shells are touched. It’s an inseparable part of their anatomy.

it's weird to me that Terraria is one of the best selling games of all time. like, i can definitely see that it was a successful game with a fun mechanic, and most of my friends had a copy at some point, and we played together a dozen or so times for a few months when it first came out, and i really enjoyed it. but it definitely doesn't have the same level of 'mindshare' as games it hugely outsold. e.g. i've personally never met Terraria Megafans where the only thing they're into is Terraria

Can we just teach people to use the search function in a website instead of deploying chat bots.

So not gonna lie, I am INCREDIBLY disappointed in that JWST event.

Having the president and other career politicians introduce it instead of a science communicator was a CHOICE and *not* a good one.

And having the image on a small screen we had to squint to see? This was just a big example of how not to do an outreach event 🙄

Also, a much needed reminder this week as you see NASA go way too hard with the "Webb" branding: James Webb enforced homophobic polices during his tenure as under secretary of state and NASA administrator and we should not be celebrating him by naming a telescope after him. I will only use the acronym JWST until the telescope is renamed.

NASA has announced the images and data that will be shown at the JWST press conference next week! If you haven't already, now is the time to mark your calendars for Tuesday July 12th at 10:30 am Eastern! 🗓️

This is the first real *science quality* data that the public will see!!

On the exoplanet side, we recently heard rumors that they planned to show an exoplanet spectrum at this event - and now we know what target! I'll put some info about WASP-96b in a thread below ⬇️

Protests are happening in Downtown Akron all weekend and footage is set to release Sunday.

Just popping in to say: Exciting life news! Today is my last day of work as a postdoc... because as of next week I become senior staff! (i.e. a permanent position!) 🪐🔭

More exciting news is that my husband has a position in the area lined up after finishing his residency - so only one more year of long-distance! 🥰

We can expect our science data that's being taken early July to become available within 48 hours of that event and then the real work begins! I'm excited to share with you all that process- trust me, you all will know once I start downloading our data!

In the meantime I have LOTS to finish up before JWST data consumes my life 🫣
